neo org

Manage organizations.

Claim a handle held by a GitHub organization you administer. Organizations are otherwise created on the web, at /new/organization — a rare, one-time act with no CLI verb.

neo org [OPTIONS] <COMMAND>

Claim a handle held by a GitHub organization you administer.

Names that exist on GitHub are reserved for their owners to claim by proof, so creating one at /new/organization is refused with reserved_on_github; this command is the way through for a GitHub ORGANIZATION you administer. The proof runs in the browser, not here: the claim mints a workspace you own, so its routes accept only a signed-in browser session and refuse every token. This command opens /new/organization/claim?slug=<slug> on the forge (and prints the URL first, for a machine with no browser), where the page starts the claim and sends you to install the neosource App on the organization on GitHub as one of its owners. Meanwhile this command waits for the organization to appear under your account and prints it when it does.

Idempotent for an organization you are already a member of: it is reported as existing and nothing is opened. An organization that exists as someone ELSE’s is indistinguishable here from one that does not exist yet — the browser says already_exists, this command waits out --timeout. A wait that ends with the organization visible to you but not as its owner — someone added you as a member meanwhile — exits 1: the claim itself did not complete.

neo org claim [OPTIONS] <SLUG>
Option Value Required Default Env Values Description
<SLUG> yes The handle to claim — a GitHub organization’s login
--timeout <TIMEOUT> no 600 Maximum seconds to wait for the browser side to finish (at most 7 days). Ten minutes by default: enough to sign in, install the App, and have an organization owner approve it in another tab
--json no Print the claimed organization as JSON. Progress and the claim URL go to stderr, so stdout stays one JSON document
